Açai berry • What is the nutrition value?

Açai is a small purple berry native to the rainforests of South America.

The juice of the berry is popular, with a reputation as an anti-aging aid because of its high levels of antioxidants. The anthocyanins are said to help fight cancer and heart disease and the oleic acids are heart healthy.

The fruit of the açai also provides calcium, Vitamin A, monounsaturated fat and even protein.  It is high in phytochemicals.

You can buy açai as tablets, frozen berries, or juice.  Beware that juices often have added sugar and you don’t want to ruin the health benefits with unnecessary sugars.  Better to buy frozen açai and add to fresh fruit juices that you make at home.
