Bowel transit time • What is it?

Bowel transit time is the amount of time it takes for food to move through your system.

Food should move through you in 12 to 24 hours. Longer, and toxins may be reabsorbed into the bloodstream. Less, and your body may not have time to absorb available nutrients. You can do a simple home test with activated charcoal. Follow directions on the product; use as little as necessary. From the time of ingestion to having a black stool—that’s the transit time.
