These are herbal formulas that originated in Canada. These came to my attention when a friend of mine claimed Flor Essence cured her mother of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. It is also used by people for treating cancer or as a complement to allopathic cancer treatment.
Manufacturers of herbal supplements do not, and may not, make claims that a dietary supplement treats, prevents or cures disease. There is no laboratory evidence of an anticancer effect (in fact, could have the opposite effect) and it is not approved by the USFDA. Evidence is anecdotal only. Other conditions it is said to treat or improve are:
- Gastrointestinal distress
- Immune enhancement
- Inflammation (swelling, pain)
Essiac contains Burdock Root, Indian Rhubarb Root, Sheep Sorrel and Slippery Elm. Flor Essence adds to the above: Watercress, Blessed Thistle, Red Clover and Kelp. It is considered non-toxic but may cause unpleasant side-effects (not life-threatening).
