Tai Chi: What is it?

Tai Chi is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, designed to get energy flowing throughout the body.

There are differences between Tai Chi and Qi Gong (another TCM component), one of them being that Qi gong exercise focus on specific energy flows while Tai Chi works with all energy principles at once. For example, in Qi Gong you may focus on getting energy flowing to the heart, but in Tai Chi that should be happening at the same time as optimal breathing.

Tai Chi has slow flowing movements, much like Qi Gong. The goals of movements in Tai Chi are to balance energies, promote health and foster serenity.

Research offers positive evidence that Tai Chi is effective for pain management in several health conditions.
