Thalassotherapy is the medical use of seawater. A few scientific studies have shown improvement for stroke and fibromyalgia patients but the numbers of studies done is limited. Proponents claim that beneficial trace elements of seawater is absorbed through the skin. There are various treatments including seawater showers, algae wraps and mud baths. You will find spas in Europe (on the sea) and near the Dead Sea, but safety regulations make it impractical or impossible in the United States.
